SARAH GANNON MEMORIAL TRAVELING TROPHY

 

               Sarah Gannon was a member of the Fond du Lac County Horse and Pony Project until 1988 when she and her family moved to Hudson, Wisconsin.  Sarah was truly a great member of our 4-H group.  She was very pleasant girl, always friendly and helpful to others.

            An unfortunate accident with her horse at UW River Falls Lab Farm in October of 1988 took her life at the age of 12 years. She will always be remembered by many of our group.

            Each year the Horse Guidance Committee awards the Sarah Gannon Memorial Trophy to an individual in the 8 through 12 year age group. This person must display the interest, enthusiasm, and all around good character for the horse project, that Sarah Gannon is remembered for.

            In order to nominate an individual, you must send in the Sportsmanship Nomination Form to the President or the Secretary of the Horse Project by June 20th.   Nominees will be informed of their nominations by a member of the Sportsmanship Committee.  Upon being informed you will be encouraged to follow the steps required to be a qualified candidate. The recipient of the award will be given the award at the Saturday night picnic at the Fair.

AMIEE JURGENSMIER-THOMPSON SENIOR SPORTSMANSHIP TROPHY

 

            Amiee was an active member of the Fond du Lac County Horse and Pony project since she was a little girl. She continued to be involved in the project into her adult, holding many positions on the board.

            She enjoyed showing her own horses and most importantly, helping other members to learn and grow in the project. Amiee could be found many times coaching and giving advice - even right up to her passing in the fall of 2013. She was inspiration and role model to many 4-H members - young and old.

            Fond du Lac County horse guidance committee established a special sportsmanship award in her memory. The award is to go to a very deserving Horse and pony project member who is 13 years or older.

            In order to nominate an individual, you must send in the Sportsmanship Nomination Form to the President or the Secretary of the Horse Project by June 16th.  Nominees will be informed of their nominations by a member of the Sportsmanship Committee.  Upon being informed you will be encouraged to follow the steps required to be a qualified candidate.  The recipient of the award will be given the award at the Saturday night picnic at the Fair.

            The recipients of the Tiffany Binning Sr Sportsmanship award are: Rikki Ruplinger (2005), Jill Narges (2006), Jessica Ebert (2007), Rebecca Larson (2008), Mandi Pesch (2009), Carly Salter (2010), Amanda Hackl (2011), Becca Moon (2012), Allison Opheim (2013), and Emily Franke (2014).  

            The recipients of the Amiee Jurgensmier-Thompson Sportsmanship award are: Kaelyn Ernst (2015), Amanda Guenther (2016), Cassie Burke (2017), Sara Bopp (2018), Jake Biermann (2019), and Kallie Tiedt (2021).

 

MARY LANG MEMORIAL TRAVELING TROPHY

 

            Mary Lang was a leader in the 4-H for over 20 years.  She was also the president of the Fond du Lac County Horse and Pony Project for 8 years.  Mary spent many hours helping in the project.  If she wasn’t helping a member she was helping the nervous parents make sure they had all their paper work in and their kids were ready to show.   She was a very special person, with a huge heart always willing to give and work hard to get things done in and out of the project.

            Mary passed away in February of 2009, she was 58.  She had battled colon cancer for five years.  She was a fighter, and an inspiration to many other cancer survivors.  Mary had touched the hearts of many youth and adults in our project and is dearly missed.

            The project will award this trophy to an adult who shows the hard work, enthusiasm, and leadership that Mary will always be remembered for.

            In order to nominate an individual, you must write a nomination letter and send it to Julie Grossman, 666 Thomas St FDL 54935 by June 20th.  The family of Mary Lang will chose the recipient.  The award will be given out Saturday night of the fair.
